The Tamagawa University Taiko Dance Group will perform in Roberts Hall,
Marshall Auditorium. The thundering taiko drumming meets traditional
Japanese dance as more than thirty drummers and dancers take the stage!

On Tuesday, April 6 at 7:00 PM, the Tamagawa University Taiko Dance Group
will perform in Roberts Hall, Marshall Auditorium. This event is sponsored
by the Department of East Asian Studies and the Kessinger Family Fund for
Asian Performing Arts, and is free and open to the public.

The Tamagawa University Taiko Dance Group has been touring the world since
1961, visiting Mexico, England, Greece, Canada, Malaysia, Russia,
Indonesia, Africa and the United States. Their amazing performance of
high-energy Taiko drumming and Japanese folkloric dance has received rave
reviews from the New York Times and other media. With growing numbers of
fans every year, they return to the U.S. to perform at the Cherry Blossom
Festival in Washington, D.C.

Thundering taiko drumming meets traditional Japanese dance as more than

taiko groups in Japan coming out of Japan’s top performing arts

My name is Julie Shen and I am the Co-Social Vice President of the Penn Taiwanese Society (PTS) at the University of Pennsylvania. On behalf of PTS, we would like to invite the members of your organization to our NATWA Luncheon hosted in collaboration with the North American Taiwanese Women’s Association (NATWA). The luncheon is all-you-can-eat with authentic Taiwanese dishes cooked by NATWA mothers. Moreover, NATWA representatives will be discussing the historical and cultural significance of various Taiwanese foods.

Asian Americans United is a non-profit community-based social change organization.  AAU exists so that people of Asian ancestry in Philadelphia exercise leadership to build our communities and unite to challenge oppression.  Our social justice works includes grassroots community organizing, systems advocacy and youth leadership development, with an emphasis on the poor and working class, as well as immigrant and former refugee communities.
Our organization is seeking college interns for the following positions for our Summer Program:  College Youth Leaders and a Summer Program Assistant Director.

College Youth Leaders (2) will have the opportunity to work as teachers, mentors and role models to middle school students in the AAU Summer Program serving the Chinatown community. It is a full time, paid position for six weeks and a half weeks from June 30, 2010 to August 13, 2010.

The Summer Program Assistant Director will work with Program Directors to help coordinate and oversee the AAU Summer Program, especially in general administrative duties.  Bilingual ability in a Chinese language is required. This is also a full time paid position for 10 weeks starting June 15, 2010 to August 20, 2010.

The AAU Summer Program is a youth leadership program and a summer school for elementary school and middle school children. By training high school and college students to be teachers and mentors to children in the community, we simultaneously:

• serve an unmet community need for affordable summer enrichment programs;
• provide positive role models for children;
• enhance children’s learning with a multicultural literacy-based interactive curriculum, project-based learning, and caring tutors and mentors;
• create the opportunity for youth to make real world contributions to their communities;
• bridge generations, and
• develop their academic, leadership, and personal skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

Interns will have the chance to develop leadership skills through hands-on opportunities to provide needed services to their community. A training component includes interactive workshops, speakers, critical dialogue, reflection, and skills building training.  We want to develop the leadership potential, cultural identities, and community consciousness of all program participants, so that they can continue to strive for social justice and make a positive difference in their communities.

The Swarthmore College Coalition for a Free Haiti will be hosting a Charity Ball open to the public to raise money for Haiti relief and educate the public about the richness of Haitian culture and history. There will be great food from local vendors, speakers, art, and fun. Stay tuned for specifics about the program!
